Smashing Pumpkins to Tour for 20th Anniversary
Posted by djocean on July 11, 2008
Billy Corgan and company have announced that a tour celebrating their 20th anniversary is in the works. Although the groups has only released one date, August 9 at the Horeshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana, they have said that they will do shows in traditional music hotspots such as New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
The groups also announced that their tour in support of the new “Gish” box set has been pushed back until early 2009.
I’ve seen Smashing Pumpkins now several times and I have never been disappointed with a show. Their live performances rival some of the greatest bands of all time and when they are “in the pocket” as they say, their sound is one of a melodious mixture of siren-like instrumentals and the massive vocal power from the angst-ridden Corrigan.
I truly hope they come to Las Vegas.

T.I. Avoids Trouble in Atlanta Club
Posted by djocean on July 11, 2008
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constituiton, T.I. managed to avoid trouble recently when trouble broke out an Atlanta show. The rapper was escorted from the club shortly before after a fight started on the floor of the Luckie Food Lounge.
According to T.I.’s attorney, he had nothing to do with the fight and he was out of harms way almost immediately. Apparently T.I.’s security and his court-appointed monitor slipped him out the side door.
Since T.I. is currently out on a special deal with the federal court that allows him to be free for a year while he does 1000 hours of community service. He also has to pay a $100,000 fine and adhere to a strict curfew. If T.I. was implicated in having involvement in the altercation, it would have ended his deal.
I’m really glad to hear that he managed to stay out of trouble. The guy has been given a real opportunity to begin changing his life and it would suck to see it get screwed up because he got caught up in a fight.

Is X-Files: I Want to Believe the Next Gone With the Wind?
Posted by djocean on July 11, 2008
According to the writer oft the new X-Files movie called X-Files: I Want to Believe, the story revolves around the love interest between the series’ two main characters Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. “The emotional story of Mulder and Scully is really the heart of the movie…it’s about their love story,” said Frank Spotnitz in a recent article in the TV Guide.
Hitting the theatres July 25, 2008, only time will tell if there are still enough X-Files fans to make this movie a hit. According to a recent interview with TVGuide.com, X-Files creator Chris Carter claims this shouldn’t be a problem. “I think the reason we made the movies was because we felt that enthusiasm from the fan base. That being said, I think for this movie to be successful as Fox would like, we need to make it a movie that would appeal beyond our fan base, to a broader base, and even to a group of people who didn’t watch the X-Files before.”
This is an interesting tact for the new film edition of the hit television show. I loved the X-Files back in the day and I’m excited to see the new one. I had not heard anything about it until I saw a preview in the movie theatres the other day and it looked good. It definitely looks like something worth checking out in the theatres. Who knows, maybe it will top Gone with the Wind as the most romantic movie. I don’t care, just as long as they have plenty of gut-wrenching plots twists and some crazy aliens.
