Futurama Returns!

Posted by djocean on June 11, 2009

Long live Futurama. Thanks to the show’s increasing popularity and its already strong fandsxx base, the animated series will return with new episodes in 2010 on Ceomedy Central. The Matt Groening (Simpsons) and David X. Cohen project has found itself amdist a  revival of popular cartoons that had previously been pulled off the air.

This is a great sign for Futurama fans. Although I think the show is hit or miss, I have to admit that I have enjoyed watching the repeats on Comedy Central. Hopefully, they’ll keep the same wit and humor that made the show so popular in the first place.

The Dave Matthews Band Debuts at #1

Posted by djocean on June 11, 2009

For the fifth stright album, the Dave Matthews Band has once again rocked the charts. Knocking Eminem and his release Relapse from the top spot, the new album  called “The Big Whiskey and the GroGrux King” rocketed to number one by selling 424,000 copies last week.

Although I pmuch prefer Phish or Moe., I have to admit that there is something special about the DMB. One of the last big acts with a heavy focus on touring, the DMB continues to put out good music that continues to find a place in the heart of fans across the country. It looks like the latest album will push DMB back to the forefront of the jamband scene.

Woodstock Jams to Be Released for 40th Anniversary

Posted by djocean on June 8, 2009

Woodstock (the one in the 1960s) was arguably the greatest music festival in history so it should come as no surpise that there is still some musical magic left from the gathering that took place in upstate New York.

In celebration of the festival’s 40th anniversary, Rhino will release a 6-disc, 77-song box set featuring a number of songs that have not been previously released.

The line-up of unreleased songs makes this a must have for music buffs. Featuring the Grateful Dead playing a 19-minute version of Dark Star, Joe Cocker’s We’re Feeling Alright, and Pinball Wizard from The Who just to name a few, this is definitely one I’m going to pick up.

New Jay-Z Track Leaks

Posted by djocean on June 8, 2009

It’s finally time for hip hop fans to rejoice as we near the release date of The Blue Print 3 from Jay-Z. I can’t tell you how long it has been since we’ve heard some good stuff hit the scene. If eels like forever.

I’m drooling at the prospects of this one after seeing his first release this morning. So sick. Called D.O.A. (Death-of-the-Auto-Tune), this song reminds me why I think Hova is ahead of the competition.

This guy blows my mind. According  to Hova, The Blueprint 3 will hit stores this September. Don’t sleep, the Jigga man is back and in full effect.

R.I.P. Grasshopper

Posted by djocean on June 5, 2009

In another sad story, legendary actor David Carradine passed recently after he died in his luxury hotel room in Bangkok. Found naked and hanging from a rope, the Internet sites have been abuzz with rumors about his demise.

With people suggesting things from suicide to asphyxiation, the Thai coroners are looking at this one closely.

This guy was classic. I could care less how he died. I cared about the way the did things while he was alive.

Schapelle Corby Update (June 2009)

Posted by djocean on June 5, 2009

Once again I am saddened to report that Schapelled Corby is still locked up. Despite suffering serious depressions symptons and being shipped to the hospital, Corby has once again been returned to her Indonesian jail cell.

There may still be some hope left as Australia’s foreign minister Stephen Smith tries to work  a deal that would allow prisoners to be transfered between the two countries.

Unfortunately, there appears to be a lot of hoops to jump through before this happens and the Corby family remains suspicious of current Auzzie Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. Apparently Rudd made a number of promises prior to his election regarding Schapelle and he has not lived up to them.

My heart goes out to Schapelle and her family.  They need to get her back to Australia before she breaks beyond repair.

The Tao of Pooh

Posted by djocean on June 2, 2009

Disney has decided given the go ahead to a new Winnie the Pooh flick. This kicks ass as I am a big fan of the honey-loving bear.

Having grown up with Pooh like many adults my age, I can’t get enough of the lovable bear and I’m pretty psyched to watch this one. I can still remember pretending to be Christopher Robbins when I was young.

The hand-drawn release is set for Spring of 2011.

Pearl Jam and Target?

Posted by djocean on June 2, 2009

Ok, this story seems somewhat interesting considering the band’s anti-corporate stance during the grunge scene’s hayday. Apparently the boys in Pearl Jam have just got done shooting a commercial for Target. Directed by Cameron Crowe, the commercial is the first move for the band in their new deal.

According to Billboard, the band is thrilled to be working with the retailer because it enabled the group to still take care of smaller independent record stores and the different economic/technological requirements of their listeners. This is an interesting move to say the least, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Eddie Vedder and the guys in the group.

Red Bull = Cocaine in a Can?

Posted by djocean on June 2, 2009

According to a recent AFP report, officials in Hong Kong are claiming that there were trace amounts of cocaine in a recent shipment of 18,000 bottles of the energy drink.  Taiwanese officials say they found yeyo in cans of Red Bull Cola, Sugar Free Red Bull and the original version. The folks at Red Bull say that the government’s claims are false.

Who do you believe? This isn’t the first time I have heard that this was a possibility. Supposedly Germany had issues with Red Bull for the same reasons. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out since Red Bull dominates the global energy drink market.

Dr. Dre Busts Out Detox Song for a Dr. Pepper Ad?

Posted by djocean on June 1, 2009

Is this another sign of the apocalypse? The same man who dropped The Chronic is now pimping Dr. Pepper. I think this is one of the funniest things I’ve heard in forever.

Although I don’t believe Dre needs the  money, I can’t for the life of me figure out why he would give up his street credability for a chance to hock the 23 flavors of Dr. Pepper. WTF?
